Living at Home Program

The Living at Home Program helps maintain basic light housekeeping, assisting seniors to remain living independently.

The program serves seniors residing in Chauvin, Edgerton and Irma, rural areas of the MD of Wainwright and within the Town of Wainwright. The program is delivered by our L@H Assistants who are reliable and responsible individuals who have been carefully screened and hired for their caring attitude towards people as well as their practical experience. We support the learning needs of our staff through periodic training and skill development specific to their needs and the needs of those they serve.

The fee for this service is $20/hr. For more information, please contact the Wainwright & District FCS office.

Emergency Alert Program

The Emergency Alert Program uses the Good Samaritan Society Telecare® system which provides participants living independently the assurance that immediate assistance is available in times of need.


  • Emergency Alert Installation Fee: $75.00
  • Monthly Fee: $37.95

Community Programs

Community Coordinator

Through our Community Coordinator, we offer events, programs, workshops, and services for people of all ages throughout the year to enhance our communities social well-being. In addition to community programs, our coordinator provides individualized support, resources, information, and referrals to community members seeking assistance and support.

Wainwright and District Family and Community Services offers a variety of programs specially geared to needs of area families.

Wainwright & District Family Resource Network (WFRN)

Our  Mission & Service Area:

  • To increase support, connections, and information through programs and services for families with children 0-18 in Wainwright, Provost and M.D’s. The Wainwright Family Resource Network provides a continuum of voluntary  programs & services for families with children 0-18. WFRN is your Community Resource Network providing information, resources, referrals and helps to explore & navigate programs and services along your parenting journey.

Serving Wainwright, Provost, Czar, Amisk, Hughenden, Irma, Chauvin, Edgerton and Bodo.

WRFN On the Move with ICE

Serving families with children 0-18 in the communities of Irma, Chauvin & Edgerton.

Counselling Services Overview

WDFCS provides short-term solution focused counselling on a variety of presenting issues. We encourage you to contact us to see how we can best assist you.

Our counselling is open to individuals, families and groups.

Counselling Focus

  1. To strengthen and support individuals, families and communities by providing professional counselling services to people experiencing stress or difficulties in their life.
  2. To reduce family and social breakdown by providing strategies that support healthy families.
  3. To encourage and facilitate the development of self-help groups by enhancing personal awareness and mental well being.

What kind of counselling services does FCS offer?

At Wainwright Family and Community Services the counselling department specializes in the following areas:

Scope of Services

  • Individual and couples
  • Children and youth
  • Family counselling
  • Loss and grief counselling
  • Counselling for those with illness and their caregivers

The FCS Counsellor can additionally assist you by referring you to other professionals who may be able to further aid you in your area of need.

How much do these services cost?

Our Counselling Service Fees are affordable, and can be tailored to meet with your ability to pay. Rates do vary to some degree, depending on region and specific needs.

Please see below for sample rates:

Within the MD of Wainwright

  • $50 for a one hour session for individual.
  • $75 for couple or family group.

Outside the MD of Wainwright

  • $100 for a one hour session for individual.
  • $125 for couple or family group.

Counsellors may, at their discretion waive some or all fees for a given counselling session.

Healthy Families

Healthy Families Program Overview

A unique program for promoting independence, parenting skills, and good nutrition for pregnant women and families with preschool children through home visitation and group activities. We provide counselling, support and education on parenting topics such as labour and delivery, child development, breastfeeding and nutrition. The Community Kitchen gives moms the opportunity to get together with other parents to cook healthy meals that they take home. Healthy Food, milk and prenatal vitamins may be provided to those who need assistance.

Healthy Families has group activities that are both fun and informative. Healthy Families participants learn more about services that are available in the community. Anyone can refer to the Healthy Families program including: self, Parents, Doctors, Public Health Nurses, Social Workers, Teachers, Prenatal Instructors, Community Agencies.
