Kindness Comes In Many Forms
This winter, area children will be keeping warm
while sporting colorful striped mittens thanks to a generous donation from
Joyce and Alvin Reierson of Chauvin. For the past several autumns the
Reiersons have stopped in at the Family and Community Services offices to
drop off mittens, toques, sweaters and blankets before heading south to
spend the winter months in warmer climes. Since last year’s drop off Joyce
has spent countless hours knitting over eighty pairs of mittens for area
children. In addition to the mittens Joyce has also donated hand crocheted
baby blankets and sweaters. It takes Joyce approximately 4 hours to complete
one item. Alvin pitches in by helping to wind wool, providing lots of moral
support and then transporting the finished products. The knitted items are
distributed to various locations and agencies in the community to provide to
children in need of mittens. The wool Joyce has used was all donated to
Family and Community Service from people in our Community.
Does kindness count? To the many children who will benefit from this generous donation, you bet it does!
